Getting Real: Chapter 5
Thank god I got the chance to read Getting Real. This chapter is really for me and my fellow friends that is planning to be a programmer someday! Whew! Because before I read this, I thought that whenever you create an application it would be the best if you get to have various functionalities, but I proved it wrong. Based on what I have read, only include in your program the essentials ones, meaning important functions that would greatly increase the efficiency of your users. Also, when people for example blog about your application of you ask people on what they need, you shouldn’t be very keen on what they think they need. You should very be careful of what features you should include since when making all features possible your application may be very useless. What I have also learned in this chapter is we as programmers shouldn’t just code and code all day but to build a simple app that would greatly be useful and manageable. It’s better to have a simple app that has simple features yet managed for life, rather than making millions of features then, after a day dies.
Getting Real Chapter 4
I find this chapter very much interesting. It made me wake up regarding what I should really do rather than making an application throw it to users and thats it! Well, after reading the fourth chapter, it made me more knowledgeable and efficient even though I haven’t developed anything yet. Hahaha! What I learned is first, know your vision before creating the application. Why is it important? Its because, you should know what the purpose of your product is. Because if your app do not have a purpose, why spend time constructing it? am I right?. Second, we should work form large to small or from vague going into the details. You don’t have to prioritize first on the microscopic things of your app, first determine your market, analyze if its useful, know what you will be needing to make it happen. You have to think first the primary things that has to be considered. You will always have time to perfect your app. Just make the basics work. Third, don’t waste time on problems you don’t have yet. There are lots of things to be considered first before being a worrier. Don’t be too pessimistic and thinks that everyone will garbage your application. When problems flow solve it, its normal. Initially no application can be perfected right away. Lastly, make your app take sides. You just can’t please everyone, there are lots of applications that can be given to their perpective needs, know your market and do good for them to use your application.
“Getting Real: Stay Lean Chapter 3″
First, the word that got my attention is mass. Actually what is mass? is it the weight of a person or a thing is? well it is. But, in the business world mass means the things that you acquire or what you cover. For instance, when you create you website, if you have lots of functions in it, its very hard to manipulate when changes occur. Well, now the only constant thing is CHANGE. Just like a person, if your heavy, you don’t get to move very quickly as the lean persons are. The main point here in chapter 3, you have to cope up with change. Since if you cant move as quick as change, you will be left behind. Every second there is a change, if you want to cope with change and you have complicated things covered then your competitors will leave you out of the world. Also, what I have learned is that in the web, when you handle change it must be very cheap, coz change will not be a one time friend of yours, it will be your best friend forever. What I think is that the tools here in 37 signals would help. “let limitations guide you to your work” that’s a good one. Your creativity and uniqueness will be shown if your scope with a bunch of hindrances is given. I agree on that.
“Getting Real: Chapter 1-2″
Getting real!!! Getting real is literally Getting real. I know it sounds awkward but getting real is really like a modern technology that would help you develop web based applications in just a nick of time rather than coding those lengthy codes for the application. Ofcourse, as a future programmer, hmm hopefully hahaha, I should know all the basics first before the advanced and shortcuts of programming but on the other hand Getting real is such a helpful tool that would make you organize, reach your goals, and make possible things for the users of web based applications for their satisfaction. It made me realize I can use their tools to make my life easier on developing web based applications without sacrificing quality and customer satisfaction. No time wasted, All quality driven. Also, what I learned while reading the second chapter is that build less features, but features that are flawless and much useful. It is a given notion that whenever your more, you get to be the better one now this is not the case.
My Shopify Experience!
www.shopify.com! I never really heard this site. It just came from my professor and made me register without knowing anything about it. For a while I played with it and knew how it goes, finally I realized that its like ebay where you could sell things and make money through it. It made me realize that in my young age I can make money through this kind of business. Even just staying at home if I have the key and determination to manipulate shopify and use it as an interface to my customers, I CAN make money. Hahaha well, that’s all for now, I’m exited for the first buyer of my first posted product!!! c: Here’s the link! www.yeyes.shopify.com
